Meg is an Outpatient Psychotherapist and the Clinical Director at Three Oaks Behavioral Health and Wellness in Durham. Specializing in art & literature, she earned her undergraduate degree in Human Ecology at College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine. She then completed her Masters in Counseling at Prescott College in Prescott, Arizona. Meg is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (11442) and Certified Health Coach.
Meg is a trauma therapist whose approach is integrative and honors each client’s unique emotional system. Meg believes the client-counselor relationship is at the heart of effective therapy. She greets her clients with warmth, understanding, and acceptance in each session, drawing on each client’s strength and inner wisdom to bring about change in their lives. She is passionate about working with adults who have symptoms of trauma and are open to moving through their childhood narrative, creating one of greater peace. Meg works with clients who have challenges managing emotions, maintaining meaningful relationships, learning ways to tolerate anger and distress, and communicating in ways that are effective in personal and professional relationships. Meg’s clinical experience, combined with years of advanced training, equips her with unique and discerning insight into the way that trauma and unhelpful behavior perpetuate symptoms of emotional suffering.
At the core of her work, Meg believes each person is resilient and guided by a genuine desire to be loved. Believing each person has an inherent ability to heal, she utilizes a “bottom up” approach to her work as a therapist. This “bottom up” approach encourages the addition of body sensation linking with thoughts and feelings. She is passionate about working with clients who feel “stuck", have had unhelpful experiences in therapy, or have symptoms of treatment resistance. In other words, if you have been working on your symptoms of depression or anxiety for years, and have seen no change. Meg utilizes Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Inner Family Systems (IFS), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), and a Somatic & Attachment orientation. She also has training in Spiritual Response Therapy and is a Certified SoulCollage® Facilitator.
In her free time, Meg lives with her two beloved dogs in Durham. She loves board games, exploring downtown, and adventuring out into the beautiful outdoors.
