Katie Hargreaves, MSW, LCSW, LCAS

Site Supervisor of North Durham

Katie Hargreaves (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate (LCSW-C015197), a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist Associate (LCAS-26516), an Outpatient Psychotherapist & Site Supervisor at Three Oaks Behavioral Health & Wellness in North Durham. Katie received her Master’s degree in Social Work from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, however she is a California girl at heart.

Katie’s philosophy on therapy is that both the client and the therapist bring an expertise into the room and therapy involves collaboratively using both sets of knowledge. She believes in creating a validating environment without judgement to create a space that invites self-exploration and openness. She believes that all we do is behave, and approaches each client individually to build a unique plan with them to facilitate therapeutic change and acceptance.

Katie’s experience working in residential and outpatient settings has focused on helping people to pursue life on their own terms, while balancing acceptance and the pursuit of change. Her therapeutic approach is eclectic, using multiple evidence-based practice models including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Mindfulness to draw upon the skills and principles in each model, approaching each client individually where they are.

Katie’s clinical areas of focus include depression, anxiety, life transitions, as well as the stress and overwhelm that can accompany life changes and role transitions. Katie is LGBTQIA+ affirming and works with older teens and adults from all gender, cultural, racial, and religious backgrounds.

In her free time, Katie assists in training service dogs, backpacks and spends time with family. She loves a good cup of tea and is most happy when she is pursuing nature.
