Clinical Intern, Bradley University
Sam will begin scheduling new clients in January 2023.
My name is Sam Barry (she, her, hers) and I am a clinical mental health counseling student in my last year of study for my Master’s Degree at Bradley University. I completed my clinical psychology undergraduate degree at the University of Mount Olive in 2010. I was raised both overseas, in Norway, and in Eastern North Carolina. I have mentored, coached, and tutored local youth in sports and mathematics throughout a big part of my adult life. I’ve worked in marketing for the last decade before shifting my focus back to my passion for counseling and therapy.
My counseling focus and my therapeutic approach is based on person-centered counseling, mindfulness-based practice, and the client/counselor relationship. I believe that the client and counselor work collaboratively to move through the counseling process. My philosophy is that a nonjudgmental and empathetic environment is the key to achieving your counseling goals. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I have a particular passion for working with those that also identify as part of the community. My other counseling interests include working with a variety of adults struggling with issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief. While in the internship program, I will be under the clinical supervision of Pressley Cox, LCMHC, LCAS. My services are offered on a sliding scale.
In my free time, I enjoy watching a variety of sports with my amazing wife and dog. I am a big soccer, baseball, and football fan.
