Alissa Alba Fillingame (she/her), MSW, LCSWA

Outpatient Psychotherapist in West Raleigh

Works with ages 4+

I work with individuals ages 10 and older who are navigating anxiety, perfectionism, challenging family or relationship dynamics, identity exploration, and life transitions. Many of my clients are deep thinkers—often overthinkers—who struggle with persistent feelings of inadequacy. They may find themselves either pushing toward burnout in an effort to meet internal or external expectations, or disconnecting from themselves and others as a way of coping.

With young people, I often support concerns related to school anxiety, peer relationships, and the stress of navigating complex family systems, including the impact of divorce and shifting relationships with parents. I help children and adolescents better understand their emotional experiences and develop tools to feel more grounded and secure in themselves.

With adults, my work often centers around identity development, meaning-making, and the sometimes painful gap between the life they imagined and the life they are currently living. I support clients who are questioning how they want to show up in the world and in their relationships in ways that feel more authentic, intentional, and aligned with their values. I am especially drawn to working with dreamers and visionaries who sense there is something more possible for their lives, and I view symptoms not as problems to eliminate, but as meaningful signals—stuck points in the mind and body that can invite reflection, curiosity, and redirection.

I also work with parents across the lifespan who are noticing old wounds resurfacing through the experience of parenting. Many are seeking new ways of relating to their children that feel more connected and intentional than what they experienced in their own upbringing.

As a Latina, neurodivergent clinician and the child of immigrants, I bring a deeply personal understanding of identity, complexity, and resilience to my work. As a new mother, I am also continually engaged in the process of rethinking what it means to care for ourselves and future generations in more sustainable and compassionate ways.

My therapeutic approach is integrative and trauma-informed, drawing from narrative therapy, EMDR, CBT, somatic therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS), among other relational and attachment-based frameworks. I tailor treatment to each individual, with an emphasis on helping clients reconnect with themselves, make meaning of their experiences, and move toward lives that feel more grounded, authentic, and alive.
