Dani Coan (she/her), LCSWA

Outpatient Psychotherapist in North Raleigh

Hello! I’m Dani, and I’m so excited to be a part of the Three Oaks team as a clinician. My passion lies in helping people feel truly seen and supported as they navigate life’s challenges. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, OCD, trauma, or questions about identity and relationships, I believe therapy can be a space where you don’t have to carry it all alone. Together, we’ll find what helps you feel more grounded, authentic, and free.

I earned my Master of Social Work from North Carolina State University and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate (LCSW-A). I am committed to ongoing growth as a therapist, and I regularly train in evidence-based approaches like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD.

Before joining Three Oaks, I worked as a clinician at Third Wave Psychotherapy, where I supported teens and adults navigating anxiety, trauma, perfectionism, OCD, and identity exploration. I also provided gender-affirming and trauma-informed care during my internship at Choices in Wellness, and contributed to research on drama-based interventions at Duke’s Department of Population Health Sciences. These experiences shaped my approach: collaborative, culturally responsive, and grounded in both compassion and creativity.

My specialties include working with anxiety, OCD, trauma and PTSD, perfectionism and high-achieving patterns, and LGBTQ+ affirming care with a focus on identity exploration. As a Black, queer woman, I bring an intersectional lens to therapy and prioritize creating a space where all parts of you are welcome. I believe healing is not one-size-fits-all, which is why I blend practical strategies with creative tools like roleplay, mindfulness, or art when words alone don’t feel like enough.

When I’m not in the therapy room, you’ll probably find me writing poetry, treasure-hunting at thrift shops, or spending time on my balcony with my plants and my two furry companions, Theo (my dog) and Milo (my cat). One of my favorite guiding values is Brené Brown’s reminder that courage, compassion, and connection are at the heart of living fully — and I bring those same values into my work with clients.

I believe in the strength within each person to make meaningful change and create a life that feels more aligned. If you’re ready to take the next step in your healing journey, I’d be honored to walk alongside you. I look forward to welcoming you to Three Oaks.
