Eden Garner (she/her), MS, LCMHCS
Clinical Supervisor; Outpatient Psychotherapist in South Durham
Works with ages 18+
Hello! My name is Eden and I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor & Supervisor. I work with adults of all ages as an Outpatient Psychotherapist at Three Oaks Behavioral Health & Wellness in South Durham.
I am a proud NC native! I grew up in Greensboro, NC then attended UNC-Chapel Hill to earn my undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Religious Studies. I just couldn’t seem to leave and spent another 2 years at UNC for my graduate degree in Rehabilitation Counseling & Psychology. A tarheel through and through, I joined as a faculty member upon graduation from my master’s program and worked in UNC’s Department of Psychiatry for 6 years. (Don’t worry, we can still work together even if you don’t bleed Carolina Blue!) COVID times were tough, so for the following 3 years I worked from my basement for a remote mental health company. Now, I am thrilled to join the Three Oaks team and get back to my roots of working directly with our local community.
I strongly believe in first listening to hear, not to respond. I believe clients are the experts of their own lives and I am here to help strengthen and empower the wonderful and unique parts of yourself. I will of course offer clinical guidance and skill-building along the way, but never without hearing what it is you truly need and want from the therapeutic process first. I take a collaborative approach to all goal-setting and treatment planning conversations and value transparency in all of my work.
I primarily utilize person-centered approaches with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy interventions. This always includes a sensitivity to your culture and background and the significant impact that your personal history has on your current life. This often includes trauma-informed considerations as well. I also use mindfulness-based interventions and motivational interviewing to identify areas of growth potential, based on your goals and will collaborate with you to create meaningful “homework” or practices that you engage in between our sessions.
I am LGBTQ+ affirming and have received specialized training to write letters of support for gender-confirming surgery. Please know that I am an advocate and ally that values cultural humility, recognizing that as I do not have the same lived experience, my role here is to listen and understand as you bring your story to the therapeutic space.
When I am not working, I love to spend time with my husband, son, and pets, read a good book, or bake at home. I enjoy visiting parks and gardens, especially during frequent travels to the beach and mountains. I’m a foodie (okay, a very amateur one) that loves trying new restaurants and am always up for a fresh pastry from a local shop.
I can’t wait to get to know you!
