Jon Kaplan (he/him), LCMHCA, NCC
Outpatient Psychotherapist in South Durham
Hello! My name is Jon Kaplan, and I’m a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Associate (LCMHCA) providing individual therapy in person and via telehealth. I work with ages 20 and up, and I would love to be a support and ally along your life journey.
I received my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from North Carolina Central University and I also have a bachelor’s degree in political science from American University in Washington, D.C.
Counseling is a career change for me after spending many years working as a musician, writer, and parent. It’s a natural shift for me in which I can use my life experience, along with my natural empathy, warmth, and sincere interest in others’ lives.
I approach therapy from a person-centered perspective and am influenced by existential and feminist therapy. I believe that therapy is a collaborative journey between fellow human beings in a nonjudgmental space, and that the most important aspect is finding the right fit between therapist and client. I welcome clients from all backgrounds and identities.
In my free time, you might find me exploring hiking trails, going to concerts, or looking for the best ice cream in the area (suggestions welcome!)
If you are experiencing blocks in your life or transitions that feel overwhelming, therapy can help. I understand that seeking help is not always easy. If you think we might be a good fit, please get in touch so we can find out.
