Kessonga Giscombe, MS, MSW, LCSWA
Outpatient Psychotherapist in South Durham
Greetings! My name is Kessonga Giscombe, and I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate and Outpatient Psychotherapist at Three Oaks Behavioral Health and Wellness in Durham. I received my Bachelor of Science (BS) from North Carolina Central University and my Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I’m also a Certified Holistic Health Counselor and Certified Mindfulness Meditation Instructor.
In addition to my clinical work, I serve as an adjunct Mindfulness instructor at UNC Chapel Hill School of Medicine in the Program for Integrative Medicine (PIM), and I’m one of the core mindfulness teachers on the Headspace app.
I believe meaningful change begins with awareness of our thoughts, emotions, and the patterns that shape how we move through the world. My approach to therapy is collaborative, grounded, and rooted in mindfulness, with an emphasis on helping clients build emotional awareness, regulate their nervous system, and navigate life with greater clarity and intention.
While I draw from a range of evidence-based approaches, including CBT, ACT, DBT, psychodynamic therapy, and Motivational Interviewing, my work is less about fitting clients into a model, and more about meeting them where they are.
I specialize in working with individuals experiencing anxiety, stress, and life transitions, as well as those who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves. I have a particular interest in supporting high-functioning adults, creatives, and professionals who are looking to deepen their emotional awareness, improve relationships, and reconnect with a greater sense of purpose. I also enjoy working with men who are beginning to explore their emotional world in a more intentional way.
In addition, I’m passionate about addressing the impact of trauma, including experiences related to racism, oppression, and identity, and I strive to create a space where clients from all backgrounds feel seen, respected, and understood.
