Maggie Watts (she/her), MSW, LCSWA
Outpatient Psychotherapist in North Durham
Works with ages 12-55
Hi! My name is Maggie Watts (she/her), and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate (LCSW-A) working as an Outpatient Psychotherapist at Three Oaks Behavioral Health & Wellness. I received my undergraduate degree in Gender Studies and Psychology from Appalachian State University and my Master of Social Work (MSW) from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Social Work.
I have previous experience working with survivors of intimate partner violence through a trauma-informed lens. As somebody passionate about reproductive justice, I have spent several years of my career supporting people through high-risk pregnancies and continue to help clients of all gender identities navigate the full spectrum of reproductive healthcare experiences and pregnancy outcomes. This includes pregnancy, abortion, pregnancy loss, the postpartum period, and perinatal/postpartum depression and anxiety.
In addition to these, I am also dedicated to helping anybody experiencing anxiety, depression, OCD, and ADHD. I am also able to provide support to those processing trauma, grief or loss, life transitions, relationship struggles (including sex and intimacy), family dynamics, emotional dysregulation, gender/sexuality identity exploration, setting boundaries, and self-esteem or body image challenges.
My approach to therapy is centered around compassion, non-judgment, collaboration, and curiosity, as everyone’s story, needs, and goals are unique. I am grounded in techniques such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Mind-body connection awareness. I aim to integrate various perspectives to tailor therapy sessions to fit what feels most validating and productive for you during our time together.
I am LGBTQIA+ affirming, anti-racist, and welcome individuals of all backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures, and abilities. I am committed to creating a safe and empowering therapeutic space for all, where everyone feels seen, heard, accepted, and celebrated for who they are.
In my free time, I enjoy reading literary fiction, trying to cook new recipes, taking a walk or dance class, and watching reality TV with my tuxedo cat Sketti. I look forward to working with you!
