McRae Scott, LCSWA
Outpatient Psychotherapist in North Durham
works with ages 5+
Hello! My name is McRae, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate (P022378) with a passion for supporting individuals navigating life’s challenges. I am a proud double Tar Heel, having earned my Master of Social Work degree and Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Chinese from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During my education, I completed training at the UNC TEACCH Autism Program and at the Durham VA Medical Center. I was also honored to receive specialized training as a Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) fellow.
I have over eight years of experience in the mental health field. I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and adults who experience difficulties with emotion regulation, including borderline personality disorder, chronic suicidality, and self-harm. I also deeply enjoy supporting Neurodivergent clients (autism, ADHD, late-diagnosis, autistic burnout, identity exploration), as well as those navigating physical disabilities and chronic illness, PTSD, mood and anxiety disorders, OCD, and life transitions. I am committed to creating an affirming space for members of the LGBTQ+ community, Veterans, and those deconstructing or processing religious trauma.
My approach to therapy is trauma-informed and strengths-based. I draw from a variety of evidence-based modalities, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT—both full-model and skills), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Trauma-Focused CBT, the Unified Protocol, and Structured TEACCHing. I believe therapy should be collaborative and flexible, adapting to your unique needs and goals.
My goal is to create a validating and supportive space where you can feel seen, understood, and empowered to face challenges while developing skills for meaningful change. I strive to walk alongside you, honoring your strengths and lived experience as we work together.
Outside of work, I enjoy thrifting, cheering on the Tar Heels, cooking, and spending time in parks with my three-legged dog, Yoshi.
I would be honored to work with you and support you in building a life worth living.
