Katie List (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (#S7867) who earned a Master in Arts in Clinical Counseling from The Citadel. Katie obtained her Bachelor in Science in Psychology from the College of Charleston. She has specialty training in working with trauma and is a Certified Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional by the International Association of Trauma Professionals. In addition, she is a Registered Play Therapist (#5182) and a National Certified Counselor.
Katie has many years of experience providing individual, family, and group therapy in a variety of settings. Her experience includes working with children, adolescents, adults, and families in psychiatric hospitals, group homes and emergency shelter settings, a child advocacy center, as well as providing outpatient therapy and intensive-in home services. Areas of expertise include depression, anxiety, self-esteem, relationship issues, self-harm/suicidal ideation, ADHD, adoption/foster care, anger management, social skills, behavioral problems, grief/loss and trauma/abuse. Katie also works with parents of clients in learning skills to manage challenging behaviors by providing support in the implementation and development of positive parenting strategies.
Katie currently serves children, adolescents, and their families. She believes change and growth occur in a non-judgmental environment that provides a balance of challenge and support. All individuals have the potential for successfully meeting life’s day-to-day challenges. Katie feels her primary goal as a counselor is to assist clients in using the resources and strengths they bring to the table in combination with appropriate therapeutic interventions to reach their goals. Sessions focus on self-awareness, choice, problem solving, and setting goals for the present and future. Katie utilizes a variety of evidenced-based therapies including Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Family Centered Treatment (FCT), as well as Sand Tray and mindfulness.
