Katie is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (#11592) and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (#3401). She has been working in the addictions and mental health field for the last six years. Katie earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and her Master of Science in Clinical Counseling and Substance Use at East Carolina University. Katie is also intensively trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
Katie believes that the relationship between you and your therapist is fundamental to the therapeutic process. She focuses on concepts of trust and creating a safe environment for you to process thoughts, develop healthy coping skills, and focus on reducing and managing unwanted symptoms. Katie emphasises open and honest communication while maintaining a non-judgmental approach throughout treatment. She will create and support an individualized experience for you & center the therapeutic process around your personal goals.
Katie’s therapeutic orientation combines a variety of theoretical backgrounds and evidenced-based practices including motivational interviewing, person-centered, cognitive-behavioral and dialectical behavioral therapy. She also utilizes elements of brief solution focused therapy and family systems. Katie regularly incorporates mindfulness techniques such as guided meditation, deep breathing and muscle relaxation. She is LGBTQIA+ friendly and is committed to anti-racist work.
